Expectant Mums….We Need You!!

FREE PRENATAL PAINTING OFFER

Create-A-Face has decided to offer Prenatal Painting Sessions as a new service!

So, in exchange for permission to use images in our  marketing portfolio, we’re offering free services to the first 5 expectant mothers who schedule a session!

What is a Prenatal Painting Session?

It’s when an expectant mother has a design painted and photographed on her belly as a lasting memento of her pregnancy.

The Process:

  • It starts with the design: Mum may have an idea of what she would like painted or may leave it up to the artist to offer her some design choices.
  • Then the artist sketches out the design and presents it to the mother for approval.
  • Mum schedules the session in the comfort of her own home.
  • On the scheduled day, the artist paints and photographs the mother’s design.
  • The pictures are delivered both on a CD and via email for Mum to keep as a lasting memory.

Examples of Design Ideas:

  • Favorite sports team logo
  • Design that matches  a nursery pattern
  • Painting of a baby in the womb
  • Fairies
  • Holiday or seasonally themed design to match the month of birth
  • Henna inspired designs
  • Free-hand abstract designs
  • Landscape scenes like beach or grassy plain with butterflies
  • Tattoo-like designs
  • Angels holding a scroll with baby’s name

A Brave New World…Balloons and Glitter!

I’m happy to announce that Create-A-Face artists John and Tony are studying the art of balloon twisting.  This is no easy feat and I commend them.  Their progress so far is fantastic, they can call up so many 1 and 2 balloon designs already and have shown dedication by logging many practice hours without concern or complaint over their sore knot-tying fingers.

We hope to launch our balloon twisting service by the end of August and will post pictures and information on the Create-A-Face website soon!

For those of you who didn’t know, we have also added glitter tattoos to our service line last April and it has been a smash hit!  It’s a fantastic addition to any party.

More to come…

Any Alligator Designs Out There?

This week’s post is created with my grandmother in mind and is extended to fellow face painters.  My grandmother passed away this week and has been on my mind continously.

One memory that sticks with me is our trip to Ireland when she got up in a pub and did the “Alligator Dance.”  So my request to any fellow face painters out there is to share your alligator designs with me.  This is a design that I would like to add to my portfolio in my grandmother’s memory so I can get a little chuckle each time I paint it.

Please either post your designs in this blog, or email them to me at cheryl@create-a-face.net .

Many thanks to those of you who have sent your condolences, I appreciate it so much!

Sincerely,

Cheryl Guerino-Verduga

Add a little sparkle to your day

I was recently painting at the It’s A Baby & Family Expo in Boston. I saw some of the ingenious new products and ideas for babies and kids.  I had a blast and we were able to relieve the doldrums for the older kids through face painting.

I wanted to share some of the pics from the day…

More glitter please...

More glitter please...

My favorite of the day. He wanted me to paint a baby boy because that's what his mom is expecting. Who says kids can't be altruistic?

My very last customer of the day, he came with his siblings and Dad let them all be painted. When he took a look at his dragon mask in the mirror, I'll never forget the look on his face. That thrilled look is exactly why I do this!

Great paint can provide character

I’ve been thinking about the value of quality paint.  It has been the biggest investment in my business and I’ve been questioned as to whether it really makes such a big difference.

In our house, Halloween has always been the favorite holiday.  My kids plan their costumes for the next year as we are finishing the last stitches of the current year costume.  Everyone has always been thrilled with their costume, I make sure of it…there’s nothing worse than having a Halloween costume you don’t like.

Last year, I started face painting professionally and invested in top quality paints.  This changed Halloween in dramatic ways.  My daughter had chosen to be a vampire, perfect I thought, I know how paint a vampire.

When I finished with her, she took a look in the mirror and put on a very serious frown…she refused to smile.  “What is it? What’s the matter?” I asked with the tone only a mother who feels she has let down her kids in some devastating way can accomplish. “Don’t you like it?”

Her response was to shake her head up and down and keep that very serious frown on her face.  “Why aren’t you smiling then?” I asked.

Her reply: “Because vampires are very sad because they have to drink blood and can’t see the sun shine.”

6 year-olds are so genius!

My point? Great quality paint made all the difference to my daughter this Halloween.  It allowed her to actually BECOME a vampire.  As soon as she saw her face in the mirror, she was transformed into character in a way that wouldn’t have been possible with cheap paint.

So my answer to those who ask if it’s really necessary to spend so much money on face paint is YES!! It really is.

With the paint job, she fell seriously into character...

We’re working on new designs lately and with St. Patty’s Day around the corner, I figured I’d try a couple of St. Patrick’s designs on my own little leprechaun…She’s such a good sport!  I only have to bribe her a little to be my model!

Busy times ahead…Making new connections and staying focused

This week, we’ve been contacted by lots new customers interested in face painting for their events.  This is great news for us.  It’s also time for us to take a step back, put all our ducks in a row and make sure we stay focused on providing the best service possible.

This week, that included asking other local artists to help us out for an event because we already have 2 painters committed to another event on the same day.  Luckily, the first great artists I reached out to were available and I’m really excited to work with them.

Next task, and the most fun, come up with new designs…

Being Charitable…Okay, so we couldn’t wait ’til March…heck, we couldn’t even wait a couple of hours!

What’s on Create-A-Face’s mind this week?

Charity…and what we can do even during our own hard times to help others that need support.  Here’s our theory:  Find out what your strengths are and offer them out whenever you can schedule an hour or so.  It doesn’t cost anything and suddenly, you’ll be involved with your community.

Here’s one idea that you can translate to whatever you like to do:

Love to read?

Why not donate your time reading to kids at a homeless shelter?  Many times, parents living with children in a shelter are dealing with the many stresses of their situation and feelings of isolation.  You can help give them, say an hour, of ”me” time to unwind while offering some normalcy to the kids too.

Do a web search to find a local family shelter in your area and reach out to the staff.

If you aren’t comfortable with reaching out on your own, contact an organization like Birthday Wishes .  They provide birthday parties for homeless kids and you can support them by doing something as small as donating a pack of birthday candles….visit their site and check it out!

Here at Create-A-Face we’re not rich, but we love to paint, so we offer out our services to homeless family shelters free of charge.

So go on…do something charitable this month!  Tell us about it when you do, and feel free to add your link if you know of a great charitable organization that you’d like others to find out about.
